Question Why does exercise slow down weight loss!!!

Very confused by this, can anyone explain? Didn't do much this first weigh in but was aiming to get back into normal routine this week between 4-8 hours a week! Now worried it will slow down my weight loss. HELP!!

Have always been confused by this - I don't think it does! if you do it and like doing it I'd carry on doing it

Well apparently muscle weighs heavier than fat so as you tone up you could weigh heavier for a while. But as you continue to exercise regularly your newly toned muscles will burn up fat quicker (something like that!) I have been attending spinning classes for a couple of months now and my weight loss has been pretty steady. But last week I did my gym workout (which includes about 25 mins of weights) and my weight loss slowed down - I'm sure it has something to do with using muscles I haven't used for years! Eventually they'll be ok if I keep using them on a regular basis. Keep at it - it will be worth it in the end and it always makes you feel good after a good workout x

Yes muscle weighs more than fat - but you d'naff have to go some to buide the amount that affects weight!! As you rightly say Ang - muscle burns more calories than fat anyway - so we still don't know the answer - perhaps it's just cos we'll keel over or get very hungry and overeat!!

I'mm looking forward to my ZUmba class tomorrow

What is a Zumba class, Sasley - it sounds exotic! Please let me know how it goes - I'm intrigued. For me it is my first hour-long spinning class in the morning at 9.15am!!!! I usually do 45 mins at 10.30am (a much more respectable hour) but my son has another football tournament tomorrow that I need to watch, hence the early start. Hope I can manage an hour !

Thank you everyone for your replies, i will carry on regardless however should still be losing inches even if weight loss slows due to muscle!

I'm worn out just watching that! It does look excellent though. I am going to look around for a class near me (don't think they do it at my gym yet). Let me know how it goes - and whether you need to have a natural rhythm (of which I have none!!) Good luck today x

Absolutely, Suzanne and it's the inches that really notice. Also exercise always makes you feel better too, so that will help you keep on track too. Have a great weekend x

Bit disappointed - Zumba didn't run - so I went to Body Jam instead - enjoyed that. Have booked in for next Saturday. Have also booked for Salsa dancing tomorrow afternoon and am going to body pump in the morning. I've had a go on the power plate thing today - can't walk now - but hey it must be good for me - musn't it!!

Have a good weekend
